Reflection Blog Post

Favorite Project

My favorite project during this semester was the Audition assignments that we were assigned for this project. One of the reasons why it was my favorite project to work with was because It was fun to mess around with all the different tools, especially learning how to add sound bites and learning how to fade in the panel in order for it to go well with my audio, which was an interview that I had recorded. Another reason of why this was my favorite project was because as a volunteer member for a radio station I had to work with audition but was never trained on it, so having this experience made me reflect a lot on the work that I have done on previous years.

Skills that will be used in the future/Career Path

As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have been involved with the radio station for about 4 years now. For the radio station, I was involved with the promotions team and had to do several advertising recordings in where we had to edit our voices and add several music in the background. It was very hard for me to manage this work when I had no training on how to use Audition. Now, I am able to take my skills back to the promotions team and be able to get the work done without having to look at YouTube videos to get trained. Also, another skill that I will be able to use is photoshop because we work a lot with flyers, which I think will be helpful going back this summer and using photoshop, specially using different layers for individual images and using the Hue/Saturation figuring out the color balance.

Another skill I wished to have learned

One of the skills I wished I had learned is more details on how to use the Premiere Pro as I see that there are several tools but did not use fully much of it. I did have quite difficulty with this part of the project just because I feel like the tutorials did not go in dept on how to use and add different effects on the clips. I believe having a class period for premiere would be much help.

Websites or Resources from outside the class

I did not search for any additional sources other than repeating the tutorials that were giving to us on each project.

Additional Thoughts/comments/suggestions/etc.

Overall, I enjoyed the class, it was very helpful learning through several adobe applications. I just have one question, if certain number of students would to do the Blue evaluations, would there be a chance for us to receive extra credit? Thank you.

Final Video Story

Idea and Inspiration

My inspiration for this project came from the passion that I have towards soccer. In high school, my older sister and I had the privilege to play together in a team which is one of the reasons why I decided to interview her for her to share her experience of what it was like playing soccer. I got this idea of interviewing her from “A Day In The Life of ATC” audio clip that we had as a reading. It gave me the idea of using a soft sound (birds singing) as an introduction to the video clip. It fits well with my course topic because it is relatable to some of the lessons I learned while playing with a team, something that any athlete can relate to.

Design Process/ Technical Detail

For starters I decided to mess around with the image I used as an intro, which was using a picture of myself and my teammate when we used to play together. At first, I thought about leaving the picture parallel, but it did not grab much attention, that is why I decided to position the image in a different way and use the rotation tool and the scale tool in a way that it would capture the audience attention. After placing the interview clip, I went through it a couple times to take a few “ums” out with the razor tool. When I finished using the razor tool and clipping out a few words I decided to use the scale tool at second 19 to zoom into the person who was being interviewed for the audience to receive a better view. I used several transitions in between the questions to indicate that the person being interviewed was changing her message I started using different video transitions to see which transition would fit best, but I enjoyed best the cross dissolve because it flows smoothly into the interview. Another transition I decided to use was the film dissolve and set the saturation at -75 to indicate a new question. Lastly, for my video clip I added the same soft sound of birds signing that I used for my intro as my outro to set a smooth ending. I decided to put this audio at the end again so the crediting page at the end would not be awkwardly there. I decided to add a smooth transition of Dip to Black for 2 seconds so it can flow slow to my crediting page. For the text I decided to add some color and use linear Gradient as a fill type for the credit page to grab the audience attention instead of skipping the crediting page.

Changes for Final Video/Feedback

The feedback I received from my classmates was great. I enjoyed knowing they loved the work I did and took in consideration some suggestions they thought would better my final video. Although, I decided to not change anything for my final video creation just for the fact that I was very satisfied with my draft, which I had taken it in serious matters as a final and out a lot of time creating it. Another reason why I decided not to change it was because of time, I was very close reaching the 2 minutes and by adding another intro would add more seconds to it. Also, I did not want to be talking the whole 2 minutes which I thought leaving the bird sounds would make it more interesting instead of me talking full time.

Draft Video Story

Idea and Inspiration

For this project I decided to ask one individual who has played soccer with me before in high school a few questions regarding what has been her experience with that sport. I decided to do an interview for this project because I liked how “A Day In The Life Of ATC” audio clip came out in the Audio Editing reading. I was inspired by that reading because I liked how the intro started with sound and music effects, it captures attention from the audience. With that being said, it gave me the idea of using a soft sound (birds singing) as an introduction to the interview, which would set the mood for the questions being asked. It fits well with my course topic because it is relatable to some of the lessons I learned while playing with a team, something that many athletes can relate to.

Sources and Materials

Some of the challenges that I faced through this process was getting familiar with the tools, it is very difficult to find my way back to any edit that I did not want to make. Also, for some reason the tools went away, and I had no idea how to get them back on my screen. With that being, I exited out of the software and re-started because I did not know how to fix it. One recommendation I would make is get familiar with the tools before starting or ask as many questions as you can. Also, I made sure I asked the individual who was presented in my video clip if I could have her permission to record her and use this video for a project, as she was willing to cooperate with that.

Interview

Sample Storyboard: Believe, Hope, and Act

Visual Elements Audio Elements
0:00-0:04 It will consist of a picture image of the individuals who are going to be talked about throughout the video. For the introduction of the audio, I will add a soft and smooth audio of birds signing that I have recorded outside my house for it to be smooth transitioning into the interview.
0:05-0:20 It will consist of a video clip of the the person who is being interviewed giving permission for me to use some of her images and the video for this project During this time, it will be the voice of the person being interviewed and myself asking her if I can have her permission to use this video as well as some of her images that we had taken when we played soccer together.
0:21-1:45 This part of the video will consist of the person being interviewed answering a few questions of how soccer has impacted the person she is today and what are some of the big lessons she took from playing that sport. For this part of my video clip it will continue being the voice of the person being interviewed answering as well as y voice asking a few questions. I plan to use saturation in this video to tone down the brightness for it to fit with the topic. Also, I plan to use Cross dissolve as a transition for the video.
1:45-1:50 The final frame of my video will be a black screen giving credit to the individual who gave me permission to use her images, as well as giving myself credit for editing. For the ending of my video clip I will use the same recording I used for the intro turning down the volume and using Dip to Black as a video transition for the end of the video clip.

Final Audio Recording

Idea

For this Project I decided create an interview recording just because I wanted to present my topic through someone else’s experience but with the same concept of soccer. I wanted to hear from other individuals who have faced similar obstacles as mine and still be tie back to the idea I had about creating an organization to help teenagers find solutions to their conflicts when dealing with sports.

Draft Design Process

I recorded the interview on my phone and transported it into my laptop for me to be able to edit on Audition CC. I noticed there was a few “uhmms” throughout the interview recording and used the Razor selected clip tool in order to remove those clips from the track. I reviewed the new recording a few times and decided to lower the volume for his voice to be at the same tone as mine. After I was satisfied with the track, I added a sound bite that I had recorded for it to be the start of the whole recording track. I had a few troubles with it because at times it was too loud or too soft that I had to fade in the panel in order for it to flow into the interview. My recommendation would be to pay close attention to the panel because it can be difficult when figuring out what kind of fade you would want into your recording

Summary Feedback

I am very thankful that I had received feedback from my classmates as it helped me make few edits and changes for my final audio recording. Some of the feedback I received was mostly on tuning down the voice of the interviewer and adding an outro to make it sound more complete and smoother. Overall, those are the only changes and comments that I received from my peers.

Process of Final Audio

For my final audio I did not make much changes just because I took my draft as if it was my final for me to not worry about making much changes to the final recording. Although, I did take my peers feedback in consideration and started by listening to the recording several times to tone down the volume and made a few pin points as the interviewer was speaking for my voice and his voice to be at the same level. Also, I did mess around more with the pan tool just so I can add an outro to the end of my recording for it to be smoother and let the audience know the interview has come to an end. Other than those changes, I did not make any others, it was a fun experience and would recommend to mess around a few times with the volume line and the pan tool for you to be satisfied with the tone you want to set.

Draft Audio Recording

Idea

For this project I decided to create a recording as a form of an interview for the reason that I wanted to hear from other young teenagers who share a similar story to mine. Also, I decided to interview Ricky, (with his permission) for the reason that he has played soccer for several years and would have experience on lessons he has learned from the sport. My idea is related to my topic because it is relatable to soccer and also ties in with the organization idea, I had for those who face conflicts while playing the sport.

Inspiration

After listening to NPR and Northwest Public Radio I knew that I wanted to do an interview for this project. The reason why they inspired me to do so was because it sounds more interesting when others are speaking rather than being one voice for the whole time. Also, I really enjoyed how they used other audio sounds to transition to another person. I got inspired to use a dramatic sound at the start of the recording and then transition to the interview recording. I believe the idea of having an interview for this project fits well with my topic because it gives me an opportunity to listen to their situation and see how I can help them out.

For my audio recording I thought about doing an interview by asking questions to a soccer player. Raw Audio Footage

I used this audio as an interview because I wanted to ask other individuals who have played the sport of soccer to see if they have faced similar situations as mine. I enjoyed speaking with several individuals, but decided to stick with one person for me to meet the time frame.

Final Logo

Relates to Topic/Issue

For starters I decided to start my logo design by placing my topic as the attention grabber. I chose to create a shape of a soccer ball for it to demonstrate my passion towards soccer. My idea was to motivate other individuals who faced similar struggles when wanting to join a sport or finding an open door to issues they might have going on that does not allow them to be involved. By doing so, they would want to join the organization just by seeing the name “Dream High” and knowing they will have the support they need to reach their goals regardless of their conditions.

Draft Logo Process

For my draft I started off by using only one layer because I was not quite sure what I wanted to add until I started using the Ellipse Tool. When I started creating the circle, I saw that I could use the polygon tool, for that reason I knew I could create a soccer ball by using the Ellipse tool. I created a few polygons and was not as satisfied with the design because it needed to add stroke for it to look like an actual ball. I felt as it looked empty which is why I decided to add a title for the organization to add more meaning to it. Even after I added a title I wasn’t satisfied because It looked empty and wasn’t catching my attention. I decided to go back to the tutorials to check if I would be inspired to create a design in my logo. Looking at the Tracing Logo Tutorial video inspired me to use the dashed line tool to add attention to the soccer ball as well as trying out different effects to the text. At the end I was happy with my creation and knew I needed one final step, which was adding color by using the gradient tool and looking back to the Tracing Logo Tutorial and following the steps and finishing by expanding the image for the shape and size of the logo to be kept the same when making the image smaller. Overall, I enjoyed creating my draft.

Feedback

I am very thankful for all the comments that I received from some of my classmates and very happy that they enjoyed my logo. I received a few suggestions adding a thicker layer to my text for it to grab more attention and also making a thicker stroke to some of the polygons. Other than those suggestions, my classmates were satisfied with my work. I did make a few changes to my final logo in regards to the feedback I received because I fully agreed with their comments, not extremely changes, but a few that made me satisfied with my work.

Final Logo Process

For my final logo I did not have to make as many changes because I was satisfied with the draft I had created. One of the changes that I made was adding an effect to the text, adding more curve and increasing the percentage grabs more attention to the audience because it delivers the message. Also, another change I decided to add a stroke to some of the polygons because I had not noticed that I did not outline them after sending them to the background, I had to ungroup the image and add a stroke to the polygons. After making these changes, I was satisfied with my work and left it as my Final Logo.
